Anecdotes from Sainik School, Kazhakootam - "Simple Mistake".

When I was in School, I was very weak in Mathamatics. I don't understand this, because most of the IQ test which I had taken up on the Net said I have a "rare mathematical ability". I badly want to believe that this is the truth. Who else other than me, with this rare mathematical ability would say that SineA/SineB = A/B. Guess how I got that. No prizes for guessing, Sine and Sine were cut away and now you have a "rare mathematical ability". We had a teacher in school who made this remarkable comparison when we went to him with the corrected answer sheets and begged for one more mark to make the total for the passing score. We used to say things like--scratching our heads--the works, to look ur most pitiable self "sir, sir, sir ,simple mistake sir, steps are correct sir, one mark sir, please sir--" its a bad scene, Believe me, you don't wanna be there. He in turn said this story about simple mistakes.

Simple mistake ?, I'll tell u a story. A train is starting from trivandrum and going to Madras(those days it was Madras and to me it still is) . Passengers are happy, station master is happy, engine driver is happy. Train reaches Madras, engine driver is happy but station master is not happy, passengers are not happy, you know why? Simple mistake, engine was not connected to the bogies.

Nobody has made a "simple mistake" after that in school.

The episode of the curious Chinese man

After many years of working for the great Indian IT industry, I was also send to the US for training . I was to fly from Chennai to Frankfurt and from there to Chicago, My US entry point. The flight to Frankfurt was OK. I had an aisle seat and was able to sleep once the aircraft went into cruise mode. From Frankfurt I was stuffed into an united airlines Boeing 747. Trust me, this is one hell of a big airplane. But sadly my seat was in the middle of the middle row and had aged people sitting on both sides. to add to my woes, they were not serving alcohol on this flight. Okay, no probs, I am a master at the art of doing nothing. So I sit. This flight dint have personal in flight entertainment either. They were playing some movies on a big screen up front which i was not interested in. Well I made it to Chicago in one piece. From this point things got real interesting. Before i check into immigration, I check into the restroom. and guess what, some idiot has left a soft toy in the rest...
